2024 Preview: New Work, Old Work, and a Bountiful Year!

Happy New Year from all of us at Flying Leap! 2024 is already shaping up to be a busy year full of new works, new partnerships, and a return to some old friends. As we continue to raise funds to support our growing community of artists, here’s a little preview of our year:

In JANUARY, The Neighborhood is bringing us to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for Tu BiShvat. We’ll be performing a version of our outdoor nature play The Garden in the museum’s greenhouse for audiences in Crown Heights. You can learn more and get tickets here – your museum admission for 1/21 includes all of the Tu BiShvat programming. Tickets are $15 (babies under 1 are free).

In FEBRUARY, we’ll be performing a second iteration of A Children’s Ceremony, our queer interfaith Shabbat disco with Temple of the Stranger.

In MARCH, Jess, Susanna, and Ana are traveling to Atlanta for the TYA/USA conference. Jess will speak on a panel about funding devised work for young audiences, and Ana and Susanna will be representing our dear friends at Spellbound, presenting a workshop on their new show Lullaby Land.

In APRIL, we will premiere a new commissioned work in Brooklyn. The details are still under wraps, but stay tuned for an announcement in February!

In MAY, Jess, Ana, and Susanna will hit the road again, this time heading to Cuba for ASSITEJ, the World Congress of international theater for young audiences. We’ll be presenting our workshop on Expansive Access and the Outdoors in Devised TYA (first presented at the 2023 TYA/USA conference) as well as a research paper featuring The Garden as well as works from two of our peer organizations.

And this SUMMER, we will re-launch Beyond the Wall || Más Allá del Muro, our giant puppetry project with youth at the US/Mexico border wall, in a week long workshop with our collaborators Jacksubeli Gonzalez and Oscar Lancaster.

Phew! It’s going to be a beautifully busy year! It’s such a joy and an honor to watch our work and our company grow, and to have you as part of our community. Thanks for reading, and for your continued support of our little company!
