The Garden 2026 NYC Tour – Performers

Flying Leap Productions, a nonprofit producer of boundary-breaking performance for families, is seeking performers for a 2026 NYC tour of The Garden, an interactive outdoor performance welcoming very young children under 5 and their families into nature, in public parks. The 2026 tour will visit public parks and NYCHA developments in all 5 boroughs, in partnership with the New Victory Theater.

About The Garden

The Garden is a radically inclusive, meditative performance exploring the life cycle with very young children and their families in public green spaces. In The Garden, families experience the life cycle through all five senses – through movement theater, poetic text in three languages, and interactive play – seated in the grass beneath the open sky in their local public park.

We encourage you to learn more about The Garden at www.flying-leap.com/garden.

What We’re Seeking

We are seeking one movement and/or physical theater performer with experience and/or interest in interactive theater for the very young. The performance is primarily movement-based, with a short spoken poem. Experience working with interactive performance, early childhood, or TYA/TVY is a plus.

We are looking for performers who:

  • Can engage with audience aged 0-5 in a thoughtful, specific and curiosity-led way

  • Have strong bodily awareness and control

  • Can move between choreographed and improvised movement with ease

  • Have experience devising or choreographing moments of movement or physical theater

  • Speaking a second language is a big plus (but not a requirement)

Auditions will be scheduled in late March 2026, in 2-hour workshop-style blocks. If you feel you are a strong fit but are unavailable for those audition dates, we encourage you to still apply.

Commitment Dates

Performances will take place in Fall 2026 across the 5 boroughs of NYC; rehearsals in August 2026 at the New Victory theater, touring dates to include 2-3 days of performances per week in September–October 2026, primarily weekend mornings/afternoons.

Pay Rates

Flying Leap’s current rate for performers is $250/day, plus a travel stipend when traveling more than 1h from home. This rate will be increased in Spring 2026 when the new living wage tables are available. Flying Leap’s pay equity policy is based on the living wage, and meets or exceeds W.A.G.E. rates and comparable union/guild rates when available. This is a non-equity production. Specific pay for each role included below.
