The Garden 2026 Tour – Multiple Roles
Flying Leap Productions, a nonprofit producer of boundary-breaking performance for families, is seeking to fill several roles for a 2026 NYC tour of The Garden, an interactive outdoor performance welcoming very young children under 5 and their families into nature, in public parks. The 2026 tour will visit public parks and NYCHA developments in all 5 boroughs, in partnership with the New Victory Theater. We are seeking two Multilingual Performers, a Musician (Woodwind Doubler), a Production Stage Manager, a Movement Dramaturg, and a Production Designer.

About The Garden
The Garden is a radically inclusive, meditative performance exploring the life cycle with very young children and their families in public green spaces. In The Garden, families experience the life cycle through all five senses – through movement theater, poetic text in three languages, and interactive play – seated in the grass beneath the open sky in their local public park.

Commitment Dates
Performances will take place in Fall 2026 across the 5 boroughs of NYC; rehearsals in August 2026 at the New Victory theater, touring dates to include 2-3 days of performances per week in September–October 2026, primarily weekend mornings/afternoons. Auditions and developmental workshop sessions December 1-6, 2025 at the New Victory Theater.
Pay Rates
Flying Leap’s pay equity policy is based on the living wage, and meets or exceeds W.A.G.E. rates and comparable union/guild rates when available. This is a non-equity production. Specific pay for each role included below.

Production Designer
We are seeking a talented Tour Production Designer to design a modular touring set, including audience seating, featuring natural and eco-friendly materials. Design to include a number of small hand props. A costume designer will need to be hired in Spring 2026; multi-disciplinary designers interested in whole-production design are strongly encouraged to apply.
Experience working with small tours creating space for interactive performance, TYA/TVY, and/or outdoor performance is a strong plus.
Must be available for observation and design sessions the week of December 1st, 2026.
Compensation for the designer is a flat rate of $3500. The scenic budget is $8,000–$10,000, including fabrication costs.
Movement Dramaturg
We are seeking a Movement Dramaturg to provide thorough questioning, critical feedback, and movement polishing for the director and cast of The Garden. There is an existing choreographic score for the performance that is ready for investigation, revision, and polishing!
Experience working with small teams, interactive performance, TYA/TVY, and/or outdoor performance is a plus. Must be available for one day of in-person work on December 5, 2025.
Compensation for this role is set at $350/day, plus prep time at a comparable hourly rate.
Production Stage Manager
We are seeking a Touring Production Stage Manager for the Fall 2026 tour of The Garden. The PSM will be responsible for load in and load out, and co-managing touring company with an on-site producer from the company. Must have at least 3-5 years professional experience. Must have experience with small tours, TYA/TVY, or outdoor performance. Bilingual or experience working in multilingual environments is a plus; valid driver’s license is a plus. Touring company includes three performers, PSM, ASM, on-site producer, and one additional front of house staff member.
Must be available for the week of December 1st, 2026.
Flying Leap’s current PSM rate is $275/day, plus overtime. A travel stipend is available traveling more than 1h from home. This rate will be increased in February 2026 when the new living wage tables are available.
Musician
We are seeking a multi-instrumentalist woodwind player to play composed and improvised music. The current score is for clarinet and flute; any combination of similar woodwinds welcome to apply. Experience with small hand percussion instruments is a strong plus, particularly with Latin rhythms. The performance includes direct interaction with children under 5; experience with this age group or with interactive performance is a strong plus.
Flying Leap’s current performer rate is $250/day, plus a travel stipend when traveling more than 1h from home. This rate will be increased in February 2026 when the new living wage tables are available.

Performers
We are seeking 2 multilingual performers with experience and/or interest in interactive theater for the very young. The performance is primarily movement-based, with a short poem performed in multiple languages; performers must speak at least one language other than English (preferably a language other than Spanish). Experience working with interactive performance, early childhood, or TYA/TVY is a plus.
Flying Leap’s current performer rate is $250/day, plus a travel stipend when traveling more than 1h from home. This rate will be increased in February 2026 when the new living wage tables are available.
