Pay Equity and Financial Transparency
Our Commitment to Fair Compensation
At Flying Leap, we believe that equitable pay is fundamental to creating sustainable, ethical theater. As a company rooted in values of care and radical inclusion, we recognize that financial transparency and fair compensation are essential to supporting artists and building a more just arts ecosystem.
Our Pay Equity Standards
Flying Leap practices pay equity for all artists and administrators. We define pay equity as:
Meeting Industry Standards: We meet or exceed W.A.G.E. guidelines (wageforwork.com) for organizations with operating budgets over $100,000. We also reference comparable union and guild contract rates from AEA, SDC, the Teaching Artists Guild, and other relevant organizations to ensure competitive compensation.
Living Wage Foundation: All workers receive at minimum a living wage for their geographic area based on the MIT Living Wage Calculator (livingwage.mit.edu). We update these rates annually each January to reflect current economic conditions.
Why Pay Equity Matters
Fair compensation acknowledges the professional expertise our collaborators bring to each project. It also removes financial barriers that can exclude talented artists from participating in meaningful work. By maintaining transparent, equitable pay practices, we work to dismantle systems that have historically undervalued artistic labor, particularly for artists from marginalized communities.
Our approach recognizes that creating transformative art requires supporting the people who make it possible. When artists can focus on their creative work without financial stress, the entire project benefits.
Financial Transparency
We practice Open Book Management, making relevant budgets available to employees, contractors, and partners for review at any time. This transparency builds trust, enables informed collaboration, and demonstrates our commitment to accountability in all aspects of our work.
